Many entrepreneurs that I work with struggle to get best results for their business with Facebook. Before you consider anything else, Rule #1 of mass email marketing is: don’t buy lists If you can handle that, then read on. If not, you probably shouldn’t worry about my tips and advice because none of it will matter if you are going to spam people (sorry, but it’s true!).

Having experience of working with all digital channels, that has never seemed right to me. The historical issue with the email channel has been the lack of focus on monitoring its performance and how much revenue it has generated, rather than just reviewing opens and clicks.

The value and main purpose of your message should be communicated clearly in the subject line so that subscribers are able to prioritize its importance without having to open it. One common mistake that some companies make is beginning a sentence in the subject line that they finish in the body of the email.

Permission marketing is the opposite of interruption marketing; instead of interrupting the customer with unrequested information, permission marketing aims to sell goods and services only when the prospect gives consent in advance to receive the marketing information.

Of course, such metrics cannot be compared without taking other factors into consideration, such as buying cycles, whether the product or service is a considered purchase, size of database, frequency and type of communication (marketing or service-based) and the campaign objective (i.e. to elicit action or impart information, to name a few).

Of course, we recommend that email marketing be an important part of your marketing mix – not the only ingredient in it. However, as you can see, if you’re not incorporating email into your marketing plan, then you’re missing out on a number of benefits that can improve your overall sales and user engagement for a very low overhead cost and, in many cases, a very limited amount of time and effort.

They allow you to identify key influencers: Most email service providers (ESPs) include metrics on who has shared your emails the most often, as well as the effect their sharing has had on other key stats (opens, clicks, conversions, etc.). Armed with this data, you—the marketer—can be better informed as to who your key influencers are.

The metrics indicate that this sector is doing well, with open rates of 30.96%, click-through rates of 6.30% and click-to-open rates of 20.34% (Figure 1), and 44% of marketers declaring they will increase the email marketing budget for 2016 (Figure 57).
